If you are looking for quiet, seclusion and a feeling of green space, then Johns Island should certainly be on your list of properties to see.

The area enjoys a nice mix of new neighborhoods, and quiet solitude because of it’s rural setting that is slowly being developed. The many farms and large tracts of land provide a wonderful opportunity to live in the country, while also offering easy access to the city.

Several years ago a group of developers petitioned the water company to allow more homes to be built and a lawsuit ensued. The ruling was that the company needed to provide a larger main pipe. Once this occurred, the larger tracts of land became more valuable and purchases were made. For this reason there are now many first time buyer Johns Island homes available at an affordable price.

Even though development has been moving forward at a steady pace, the area is still protected and does not feel as though it is being bulldozed.

Johns Island is a large island and the fourth largest on the East Coast. It is 84 square miles and about one third of the island is located in the jurisdiction of the City of Charleston, and the rest located in Charleston County.

One of the most sought after niches are those that can accomdate horses. There are many farms available that start in the $500,000 range and can move up into the millions depending on the barns and other amenities offered. There are many tributaries off of the Stono River, Bohicket Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway that provide a wide variety of waterfront opportunities to include tidal creek, deep water homes and marsh front properties.
