The blue china butterfly wind chimes hanging in the south side of the living room are the only decoration original to the house., although many of the kitchen utensils are original. The house originally had dark brown wood siding, so Mother named it the Brown Pelican. The siding was redone in the 1990s and it was decided the name of the house would reflect Daddy's interests. We kids decided the new name would be The Signalman, because Daddy was a Signalman during WWII. The taxidermy fish hanging in the living room was caught by Mother off Boca Raton, Florida in the '80s. The artwork in the house was carefully selected by Mother from local Edisto Beach and Charleston shops, and framed by Edisto Beach framers. The sofas in the living room were reupholstered in 2012 by a shop on Johns Island. The carpet, and the floors and walls downstairs were installed by Ashley River Restoration out of Charleston in 2012 and 2017. It is easy and economical to re-do the house and furnishings when needed. We have carefully maintained the house over the years. While The Signalman has some age on it, still it is sturdy, comfortable and ready to provide many more years of vacation enjoyment for the lucky owners.
