Known as the near neighbor of Charleston area beaches, the Edisto Island homes enjoy a different type of atmosphere than the other more populated Charleston barrier islands.
Named after the Native American tribe, Edisto Island homes are accessed by traveling the large rural area between Ravenel and Edisto prior to arriving on the island. With draped oak trees and scattered farms and large hunting tracts along the way, the area is quiet with plenty of wildlife. Be careful to watch for deer while driving, as the population in these rural areas is quite heavy and they can find their way into these country roads quite easily.
Edisto Island homes are more affordable than some of the other more populated beaches in Charleston, and many choose to retire there for the truly quiet relaxation found on this 60 square mile island town.
The Edisto Island homes on the water enjoy easy access to the crabbing, fishing and shrimping this part of the low country is known for. There are several seafood restaurants featuring the fresh catch of the day that will satisfy even the most discriminating seafood lover.
The Edisto Island homes located on the beachfront and even interior beach houses serve as primary residences and even second homes making up part of the popular rental market during the warmer months of the year.
Condominiums are also good options if you are considering looking at Edisto Island homes. If you are considering an investment property, the regimes in this area cover exterior maintenance, insurance, termite bonds and landscaping, so being an out of town owner is easily manageable from a distance while still providing a place to come, relax and slow down when needed.
Edisto Island homes start in the $200,000 range for condos and move into the $400,000 to $600,000 range for interior, getting slightly more expensive as yoy get closer to the beach. The beach front Edisto Island homes start at $800,000 and can move up to the 2-3 million marks depending on the quality and size of the home.
